Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about selling your gold.

Do you pay tax when selling gold bullion?

If you are selling large amounts of gold bullion, you may be liable for Capital Gains Tax. However, many gold coins are exempt. Though please refer to government CGT guidance for full details.

Which are the best bullion gold coins for investment?

Popular bullion investment coins include Britannias, Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, American Eagles and Sovereigns. The best option depends on your investment goals, budget, and and personal preference.

How easy is it to sell gold bullion?

Gold bullion can often be valued and sold on the same day. However, larger quantities or particularly rare bullion may require additional assessment and can take up to 48 hours to process. We pay you on average within 5 hours of documents being signed, but some companies will take up to 5 working days. If using our bullion by post service, your bullion can typically be received, valued and paid for all within 72 hours.

Can I sell damaged gold bullion?

Yes. Damaged gold bullion can still be sold to us, as its value is primarily based on its weight and gold content.

What is the price of 1 oz of gold bullion?

The price of gold changes daily, so we recommend getting in touch for an accurate, up to date valuation of your gold bullion. As a guide, the melt value of a 1oz gold bullion bar was approximately £3,162 on 10th June 2026, although this may be worth more now due to market movements. The amount you receive will usually be slightly below the melt value, as dealers factor in processing and trading costs. What is gold bullion?

Gold bullion is physical investment-grade gold, typically in the form of bars or coins. Its value is primarily based on its gold content, weight and purity rather than any collectable or historical value. As well as gold bullion bars, we also buy gold bullion coins.
