Valuing Your Handbag

Handbags aren’t always bought to be used. Considered to be masterpieces in both design and craftsmanship, our specialists know their Hermes from their Chanel and will offer a valuation accordingly. The four most important factors for handbag valuation are:

Brand and Model

The brand behind your bag can be incredibly important to its valuation and the model can drive the price up even higher. The handbag market is active, with different models considered to be iconic. Brands, such as Hermes and Chanel, performs consistently well while other brands, like Gucci, depend on the current market.

We see many handbags in mint condition, still in their wrappings. Others come with small scratches and evidence of wear and tear. However, handbags that have been used can still deliver a sound valuation, but this can depend on the brand.

Origin and Proof of Purchase

How a handbag is presented to our experts can dramatically affect its valuation. A handbag that comes complete with its original packaging, dust cover, its certificate and receipt will help support the valuation. Including any add-ons that came with the bag – locks, keys, accessories – can increase the value of the handbag.

The material that a handbag is made from is just as important as the craftsmanship that goes into to each bag. Leather bags normally attract a higher valuation price than fabric or man-made material. Bags of the same model from the same brand, simply made from different materials, can have very different valuations.

Looking After Your Handbag

If you use our courier service to have your handbag(s) collected from your home or you send your items to us, they will be insured up to £20,000 during transportation.

When your handbag(s) is with us, we take every step necessary to look after it. Our valuation specialists and inventory managers handle your handbag(s) with care to make sure your luxury valuables are returned to you in the same condition we received them in.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I pawn my handbag online?

Suttons and Robertsons are an in-store and online handbag pawn shop. We have local pawnbrokers in London. We offer you a secure online pawnbroker service if you prefer to transact with us from home.

Can I pawn a used designer handbag?

We do accept designer handbags that have been used as well as bags that are still in their brand wrappings. We will assess your bag for signs of wear and tear and offer a valuation accordingly. A rare handbag that has been used could receive a higher valuation than a less sought-after model in mint condition.

My handbag is a new model. Can I pawn it?

Handbags are often purchased as investments and new releases can sometimes be very high in demand. It can depend on the brand, the model and the condition but brand-new bags can attract good valuations. Handbags do not have to be vintage to be considered as an asset for a loan.

What luxury assets do you offer loans against?

We are a high-end pawnbroker specialising in offering instant, fast loans against watches, jewellery, diamonds, gold, fine art, antiques, classic and luxury cars, handbags, rare books, sports memorabilia and other luxury items.

Can I pawn my Hermes handbag?

Yes, you can. Hermes is a brand of handbag that has always had a high resale value, which helps when it comes to securing a pawn loan. The model is important to the valuation, with a Hermes Himalaya Birkin securing over £200k at auction. Our experts watch the market very carefully and this is reflected in your valuation.

What handbag brands do you lend against?

We primarily lend against Hermès and Chanel handbags however we would consider lending against handbags from other luxury brands if they met our minimum value threshold of £5,000.

How much can I pawn my handbag for?

We offer loans from £500 up to £2 million. We always aim to provide our clients with the maximum loan amount though the amount depends on many factors including the type, model, material, gemstones, provenance, condition, age and market value.

Can I pawn more than one handbag?

Yes, you can pawn your entire handbag collection. You may find a crocodile Hermes is valued at a better price than a leather Gucci or a used Louis Vuitton is valued higher than a mint condition Stella McCartney. Our valuers use a set of conditions, including brand, model, condition and material, to base their assessment.

Loan Rates

All our loans are for 6 months and are secured against your valuables. Maximum APR (including all fees): 93.21%. No minimum payment term. Maximum payment term: up to 6 months. These loans are redeemable at any point during the loan period without any penalty.

Representative Example

Loan amount of £1,000. Loan term of 6 months. Interest rate of 6% per month. Total interest of £360 over 6 months. Total repayable amount in one instalment is £1,360. Representative APR is 84.96% (including all fees).
